White-winged Parakeet (Brotogeris versicolurus) 9 June 2019. Río Ucayali--Desembocadura,
Peru.
![]() This is a rather range restricted species found almost entirely along the Amazon and its tributaries. It seems to be particularly attached to river islands. Introduced populations in urban areas of California and Florida appear to have declined in recent years and have apparently disappeared from the long-standing feral population in San Francisco. This species was formerly considered a race of the Canary-winged Parakeet now split into White-winged and Yellow-chevroned parakeets, both natives of South America. Note the white area on the wing coverts identifying these individuals as White-winged. Canon PowerShot SX60 HS. References: Brightsmith, D., K. R. Burgio, B. J. Hiller, K. E. Block, P. Pyle, and M.
