Locally known as "Taricaya," these largest of the South American river turtles have become extremely scarce, mostly due to hunting. They have also been exploited by export for the pet trade. Currently classified as "vulnerable" by IUCN, here they enjoy protection. Canon PowerShot SX60 HS.
