Swainson's Thrush (Catharus ustulatus oedicus) 20 June 2011 at Gazos Creek Road, Pescadero, San Mateo Co, CA Photo © 2011 Joseph Morlan

This is a common but shy species that prefers to sing from deep shade, but this individual uncharacteristically sang from an exposed perch in bright sunlight. West Coast subspecies such as this one have the chest spotting much reduced compared to populations in the East.
