African Pipit (Anthus cinnamomeus lacuum) - 2 July 2013. Arusha National Park, Arusha Region, Tanzania.

Identification is somewhat tentative. This is the most common pipit in the area. Our field-guides called it the Grassland Pipit following the African Bird Club Checklist. Some authors consider it conspecific with Richard's Pipit (Anthus richardi). This individual flushed from the roadside into a tree, an uncommon behavior for African Pipit. Related species such as the Woodland Pipit (Anthus nyassae), formerly considered a race of African Pipit habitually do this, but I believe they would be out-of-range at this locality. Corrections always welcome.
