Baglafecht Weaver (Ploceus baglafecht reichenowi) Male - 3 July 2013. Arusha, Arusha Region, Tanzania.

Weavers in the genus Ploceus build elaborate woven nests. Each species builds a different type of nest. Usually the male builds the overall structure and the female finishes it (interior decorating?). This species is common is towns and villages but it is not particularly social. Its nests are small with a short entrance porch. Males may build extra unused nests.

Baglafecht Weaver is divided into two groups: those where both sexes have black crowns and those where the males have yellow crowns. This is the race P. b. reichenowi where males have yellow crowns. It is sometimes called Reichenow's Weaver. A couple of other yellow-crowned races differ from P. b. reichenowi in having either a green back or white belly.
