Blue-capped Cordonbleu (Uraeginthus cyanocephalus) - 6 July 2013. Karatu, Arusha Region, Tanzania.

The French term "Cordon Bleu" is translated as "Blue Ribbon." This species of arid country often forages on the ground. This is a male showing the all blue head and red bill. Females are similar but have a brown crown. Some sources, notably IOC and African Bird Club, hyphenate the English name as "Cordon-bleu."

Digiscoped with Panasonic DMC-LX5 | Nikon FieldScope III | 30XWA | hand-held (no adapter).
