Croaking Cisticola (Cisticola natalensis strangei) - 13 July 2013. Serengeti National Park, Mara Region, Tanzania.

I took this photo out the side of our safari vehicle while we stopped briefly to check out a distant raptor across the road on the opposite side of the vehicle. Unfortunately I wasn't sure what I was seeing and didn't have time to alert others before our vehicle continued on. I believe this photo is of a Croaking Cisticola, a local species we did not see elsewhere. Its heavy bill is apparently diagnostic. I welcome corrections or confirmation of the ID.

Assuming I have the ID correct, HBW considers birds from northern Tanzania to be C. n. strangei although admitting that they intergrade with nominate in this area. Clements leaves these birds unidentified to race, possibly for the same reason. HBW also synonomizes with strangei, three other race traditionally attributed to various parts of Tanzania. C. n. strangei is said to be more richly colored in non-breeding (basic) plumage. However, some populations of this race are reported to remain in a plumage which is breeding-like throughout the year.
