Coqui Francolin (Francolinus coqui hubbardi) - 13 July 2013. Serengeti National Park, Shinyanga Region, Tanzania.

This is a male. This species was formerly (Peters) lumped with West African Schlegel's Francolin (F. schlegelii). A proposed reorganization of Francolinus by Sibley and Monroe places this species in the genus Peliperdix. Thus far, this taxonomy appears to have been adopted only by IOC and rejected by most (all?) other authorities. F. c. hubbardi ranges mostly west of the Rift Valley. Note the dark brown crown and unbarred belly which are features of this subspecies.
