Common Dwarf Mongoose (Helogale parvula) - 13 July 2013. Serengeti National Park, Mara Region, Tanzania.

Kopje picnic area. Here they were tame and fed on pictnic scraps. About the size of a small squirrel, this is Africa's smallest carnivore. It prefers areas with lots of termite mounds and likes to rest or sleep on top of them. The young spend their first few weeks below ground within a termite mound. Their diet consists mostly of insects including termites, but they occasionally take small snakes, lizards, birds and rodents.
