African Bush Elephant (Loxodonta africana) - 3 July 2013. Tarangire National Park, Manyara Region, Tanzania.

Formerly considered a single species, recent authorities have split the African Elephant into two species. This is the widespread African Bush Elephant, the largest living land mammal. There is also the smaller African Forest Elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis) which is confined to the Congo Basin area. In addition to differences in size, the two species also differ in the shape of their ears and tusks and in the number of toes.
