Flap-necked Chameleon (Chamaeleo dilepis) - 12 July 2013. Serengeti National Park, Shinyanga Region, Tanzania.

This Sub-Saharan chameleon is frequently exported for the pet trade. It may be identified by the pale stripe on its side and one to three pale patches higher on the flanks. Otherwise it is highly variable and capable of changing color, often to match its background. The similar Smooth Chameleon (Chamaeleo laevigatus) lacks the extended flaps of skin on the back of the neck. The large eyes move independently.
