Male above, female below. On the female you can see the small unfeathered groove on the forehead which collects pollen; a unique feature of this species. This is another Leonotis (Lion's Claw or Lion's Ear) specialist, endemic to East African highlands. It was formerly included in the large genus Nectarinia, but is now placed in its own genus. Three subspecies are recognized. This is the large nominate race.
