Gray-breasted Francolin (Francolinus rufopictus) - 9 July 2013. Ndutu, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Arusha Region, Tanzania.

Kicking dust. This is a very local endemic. It is reported to sometimes hybridize with Yellow-necked Francolin (F. leucoscepus). Sometimes called Gray-breasted Spurfowl and "Gray" sometimes spelled "Grey" according to national preference. A proposed reorganization of Francolinus places this species in the genus Pternistis along with 23 other species. This arrangement was followed by Clements but later abandoned. It is still in use by IOC and in publications which follow IOC.
