Gray Kestrel (Falco ardosiaceus) - 14 July 2013. Grumeti River Area, Serengeti National Park, Mara Region, Tanzania.

This is a widespread but uncommon species which we encountered only once on our visit to Tanzania. Unlike typical kestrels, they are most active at dawn and dusk. Also they do not usually hunt or hover in the manner of most other kestrels. Instead their flight is low and swift. They are said to breed in unused Hamerkop nests.

The English name is frequently spelled Grey Kestrel according to British preference.
