Hadada Ibis (Bostrychia hagedash brevirostris) - 15 July 2013. Serengeti National Park, Mara Region, Tanzania.

The red culmen indicates this is an adult. This species is common and increasingly widespread in Sub-Saharan Africa, but appears to be more common in settled areas where it seems to have adapted to irrigated fields and suburban gardens. The name is onomatopoeia for its vocalization, a loud "Ha-Da-Da" usually given in flight.

Two subspecies are attributed to Tanzania with B. h. brevirostris widespread throughout most of the country and B. h. nilotica occurring west of Lake Victoria. They are replaced by the nominate race in Southern Africa. These races are separated by minor differences in size and color.
