Hildebrandt's Francolin (Francolinus hildebrandti) - 8 July 2013. Ngorongoro Crater, Arusha Region, Tanzania.

This is a male. Females are quite different, ruddy-brown on their underparts. This species is an East African endemic ranging from Kenya to Mozambique. Although widespread, we only encountered this species a few times on our recent visit. Some authors including IOC and the Tanzania group call this bird Hildebrandt's Spurfowl and place it in the genus Pternistes.
