Lappet-faced Vulture (Torgos tracheliotus tracheliotus) - 11 July 2013. Ndutu, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Arusha Region, Tanzania.

This is one of the largest and most impressive of the African Vultures. It has a small declining population and is classified as "vulnerable" by the red data list. Declines have been attributed to accidental strychnine poisoning by farmers for predator control. Carbofuran has been cited as another cause of decline. The species has also been the victim of deliberate persecution because of the mistaken belief that it is a predator on livestock. The current total world population is estimated at 8500. individuals. It is the only member of the genus Torgos although formerly it was included with the Cinereous Vulture in the genus Aegypius.
