Feeding on the flowers of Lion's-Ear (Leonotis nepetifolia), said to be a favorite of the species. This is a male in breeding (alternate) plumage. In non-breeding (basic) the body is gray-brown. Species sometimes called "Yellow-tufted Malachite Sunbird" after the concealed yellow pectoral tufts.
