Meyer's Parrot (Poicephalus meyeri saturatus) - 14 July 2013. Grumeti River Crossing, Serengeti National Park, Mara Region, Tanzania.

This is one of the most cryptic birds I have ever seen. It was incredibly difficult to spot with its mixture of green, dark-gray and yellow coloration. This is an adult. Immatures lack the yellow patch on the head. This species is also called Brown Parrot by some authors (HBW, Howard & Moore). Two races occur in Northern Tanzania. This is P. m. saturatus which ranges west of the Rift Valley while P. m. matschiei is primarily east of the Rift and south into Central Tanzania. Saturatus is darker gray above, less blue and more mottled below.
