Rattling Cisticola (Cisticola chiniana fischeri) - 11 July 2013. Ndutu, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Arusha Region, Tanzania.

This is the most common cisticola in the area, identified by combination of rufous cap, streaked back, lack of rusty wing-panel, range, habitat and probability. Corrections welcome.

Seventeen subspecies normally recognized, but geographical variation complex, and many races possibly no more than clinal forms (HBW). C. c. fischeri is the race from interior north-central Tanzania from the Crater and Mbulu Highlands east to Arusha and Moshi. According to Zimmerman et al. (1996) it is replaced to the west by C. c. victoria in Serengeti NP. However Britton (1980) considers C. c. victoria to be a synonym while Clements and HBW restrict C. c. victoria to the Lake Victoria basin.
