Cape Rock Hyrax (Procavia capensis) - 4 July 2013. Tarangire National Park, Manyara Region, Tanzania.

Hyraxes were originally misclassified as rodents because of their superficial resemblance. A more recent classification placed them with the elephants and rhinoceroses, to which they are more closely related. Both are ungulates with hoof-like toes. However, they are currently classified in their own order, the Hyracoidea. Rock Hyraxes consist of one to five species depending on the
classification. This one is the Cape Rock Hyrax.
