Singing Cisticola (Cisticola cantans pictipennis) - 2 July 2013. Arusha - Himo Rd, Arusha Region, Tanzania.

Cisticolas are a large group of rather cryptic old-world warblers currently placed in their own family, the Cisticolidae. Identification can be tricky, but this one was confirmed by its distinctive song. Adults typically have black mouth linings while this bird has yellow, suggesting it may be a young bird. The rusty-brown crown and wings, buffy flanks, and lack of back streaking help identify it, Note also the dark lore spot,

Seven subspecies are recognized. The race C. c. pictipennis is the form found locally around Arusha N.P. It is larger than most other races and has a limited range in northern Tanzania and adjacent Kenya.
