Slate-colored Boubou (Laniarius funebris) - 4 July 2013. Tarangire Safari Lodge, Manyara Region, Tanzania.

This nondescript bird was foraging on the ground in thick growth next to the lodge. Boubous are in the Bushshrike family, Malaconotidae. They are often secretive and can be a challenge to photograph. Although this species appear to be all dark, there are white spots at the base of the rump feathers which are displayed in courtship.

Digiscoped with Panasonic DMC-LX5 | Nikon FieldScope III | 30XWA | hand-held (no adapter).
