Three-banded Plover (Charadrius tricollaris tricollaris) - 11 July 2013. Ndutu, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Arusha Region, Tanzania.

Apparently named for the two black chest bands and the white band in between. This species is common around inland lakes. The white forehead of this adult distinguishes this widespread nominate race from the Madagascar race which has a gray band across the forehead; and from Forbes's Plover (C. forbesi) which has an all gray forehead. The latter replaces it in West Africa.
