Topi (Damaliscus korrigum jimela) - 13 July 2013. Serengeti National Park, Mara Region, Tanzania.

This is one of the fastest antelope reaching peak speeds on the order of 50 mph. It is highly social but has a scattered distribution throughout much of Eastern Africa.

Note the preorbital glands that secrete clear oil in front of their eyes. The abruptly angled tips to the horns help distinguish this antelope from the similar Common Tsessebe (Damaliscus lunatus). The two species were formerly lumped. The Serengeti population is the race D. k. jimela which is smaller with shorter horns and larger shoulder patches.
