White-bellied Bustard (Eupodotis senegalensis erlangeri) - 12 July 2013. Serengeti National Park, Shinyanga Region, Tanzania.

Male.

Female.

Of the five recognized subspecies, two are found in northern Tanzania with E. s. canicollis in the east and E. s. erlangeri in the west. Zimmerman et al. (1996) lump the two assinging all of Kenya and northern Tanzania to E. s. canicollis. However Britton (1980) and Urban et al. (1986) assign birds west of Arusha to E. s. erlangeri. The two are similar, but erlangeri is described as darker and less buffy compared to canicollis.
