Yellow-breasted Apalis (Apalis flavida golzi) - 3 July 2013. Arusha, Arusha Region, Tanzania.

The body feathers are fluffed up from preening making the bird look much fatter than normal. Birds in the genus Apalis are small, active, rather sleek insectivores in the same family as the more cryptic Cisticolas (Cisticolidae). In this race, adults of both sexes have a black crescent-shaped spot on the chest so this is probably an immature.

Currently nine subspecies are recognized. This is the race A. f. golzi in which the crown is entirely gray and the undertail coverts are yellow. It ranges in interior Tanzania to adjacent Rwanda and Kenya.
