Yellow-spotted Petronia (Petronia pyrgita pyrgita) - 6 July 2013. Karatu, Arusha Region, Tanzania.

You can barely see the small yellow spot on the throat which gives this ultra-drab species its name. An additional photo is at...

Some authors (e.g. IOC) place these birds in the genus Gymnoris. This species was formerly lumped with the Chestnut-shouldered Petronia (a.k.a. Yellow-throated Sparrow (P. xanthocollis)) of the Indian subcontinent. It is also sometimes lumped with Yellow-throated Petronia (P. superciliaris). Petronias are members of the Passeridae family, the Old World Sparrows.
