Asian Brown Flycatcher (Muscicapa latirostris) 5 January 2013 near Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok, Thailand Photos © 2013 Joseph Morlan

These photos, taken near our hotel shows the slight hook on the tip of the bill. The broad base to the bill and short legs are characteristic of flycatchers in this genus.

Some authors including the current AOU, list this species as M. dauurica but both IOC and Clements corrected the name to M. latirostris following Mlíkovský. It appears that the name dauurica is not only wrong, but a typo as well. Furthermore, the Brown-streaked Flycatcher, Muscicapa williamsoni (including umbrosa), has been proposed as a split from the Asian Brown Flycatcher (Rheindt and Eaton, 2012). At this time, the systematics and nomenclature of these birds appears to be in a state of flux.
