Some authors (e.g. HBW, Fry et al.) call this the "Bay-headed Bee-eater." The species is unique in lacking tail prongs.
Mainland birds are the nominate race which has a narrow black eyeline and some chestnut penetrating into the yellow throat above the black chest band.
