This is a male. Females lack the red crest. Both Greater and Common Flameback occur in this area. The Greater can be distinguished by its dark lores and looped submustachial stripe as seen here. It is also larger with a longer bill. Some sources name this species as C. lucidus which is now split as Buff-spotted Flameback found only in the Philippines.
