Pink-necked Pigeon (Treron vernans) 5 January 2013 near Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok, Thailand Photo © 2013 Joseph Morlan

Here I follow Clements for the English name, but often (e.g. IOC, Robson) called the Pink-necked Green Pigeon (or Green-Pigeon with hyphen), this colorful species is locally common in the lowlands of Central Thailand. This is a male. Females lack the gray and pink coloration on their head and neck. Green Pigeons are a group of fruit pigeon which feed primarily on figs. Unlike typical fruit pigeons, Green Pigeons grind up the seed in their gizzard. Although attractive and brightly colored, this individual could disappear by blending with its surrounding vegetation.
