Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker (Dicaeum cruentatum cruentatum) - 18 January 2013 - Ban Maka lodge, Phetchaburi Province, Thailand. Photo © 2013 Joseph Morlan

This was a tiny, short-tailed active little bird. It stopped to preen briefly in a bare tree. They are omnivores, feeding on fruit, insects and nectar. Flowerpeckers are in their own family, the Dicaeidae, although in the past some authors included them with the Sunbirds and Spiderhunters. Thailand birds are of the pale throated nominate race.
