Great Myna (Acridotheres grandis) 6 January 2013. Pak Thale, Petchaburi Province, Thailand. Photo © 2013 Joseph Morlan

This species was very common in a variety of habitats on our recent visit. We called them "White-vented Myna" following Robson's "Birds of Thailand" but both IOC and the most recent Clements call this species "Great Myna" presumably because of a taxonomic split from Javan Myna (Acridotheres javanicus). Formerly both species were lumped under the name White-vented Myna, thus the new name.

This individual was feeding actively and this photo shows the long crest which usually lies flat. It is feeding on the fruit of Madras thorn (Pithecellobium dulce) which has been introduced to this area. It is native to Central America.
