Tufted Puffin (Fratercula cirrhata) 11 September 2016, Half Moon Bay Pelagic, San Mateo County, CA Photo © 2016 Joseph Morlan

This is the seldom-seen winter plumage which lacks the spectacular curly tufts. At this season Tufted Puffins largely disperse into deep water far offshore where they forage on squid, euphausiids, and pelagic fish. Canon PowerShot SX50 HS.
