White-bellied Cuckooshrike (
Coracina papuensis)
Cuckooshrikes are in their own family, the Campephagidae. Although unrelated to either cuckoos or shrikes, they share the shape and plumage pattern of cuckoos with the strongly hooked bill of shrikes. This handsome species is fairly widespread from Indonesia to Australia, but this relatively dark race, C. p. elegans is endemic to the Solomon Islands reaching the southern limit of its range here at Guadalcanal. Canon PowerShot SX60.
