Today I took my introductory ornithology class on our annual spring field trip to the Chain of Lakes in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. This male Allen's Hummingbird posed for us between displays. It is a common summer breeder in this area, arriving in late January and departing by the end of August for wintering grounds in Mexico.
