Taiga Bean-Goose 27 November 2010, Unit One, Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge, Imperial County, CA Photos © 2010 Joseph Morlan

This Bean Goose has been present at the Salton Sea for several weeks. It was first found and photographed by a local rancher, Al Kalin on 9 November. In 2007, the AOU split the Bean Goose into two species, Taiga Bean-Goose and Tundra Bean-Goose. The specific identity of this bird is somewhat controversial and is currently being researched. Here the bird is associating closely with a Greater White-fronted Goose. Many Snow and Ross's geese are also present.
