Gray-breasted Martin (Progne chalybea chalybea) 2 February 2011, Gallon Jug Ranch, Orange Walk
District, Belize.
![]() These were the only martins we saw in this area. Gray-breasted Martins are similar to female Purple Martins, but lack the pale forehead and pale collar of Purple Martins. Early migrant Purple Martins are possible at this time of year, but are more common on the outer coast. This is the nominate race. Two other races, one from West Mexico and one from Eastern South America have paler throats. Some authors spell the English name Grey-breasted Martin.
