Groove-billed Ani (Crotophaga sulcirostris) 27 January 2011, Crooked Tree Village, Belize District, Belize.

Here is an adult Groove-billed Ani showing the grooves on the bill. The colors of the feather fringes are interesting with a light blue on some feathers while some of the wing coverts show a dark violet hue. In the field these colors seldom show well and the birds appear to be all black at a distance.

The generic name Crotophaga means tick-eater.
