This weekend, we attended the Mono Basin Bird Chautauqua: http://www.birdchautauqua.org/

On Sunday, we participated in a field trip led by Kristie Nelson where I took the opportunity to photograph this singing Brewer's Sparrow.

This nondescript little sparrow is common in the open sagebrush habitat where they it is most easily detected by its spectacular, varied and long-winded song. It's song has been described as a Chipping Sparrow trying to sing like a Canary.

This is the widespread nominate race. A larger, somewhat more coarsely marked race ("Timberline Sparrow"), S. b. taverneri, breeds in the far north.
