Canada Warbler (Wilsonia canadensis) 15 May 2007 - Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Ohio Photos © 2007 Joseph Morlan

This is normally an uncommon migrant in this area, but this year was different. We saw this species every day and it was not unusual to see a half dozen or more individuals. This one allowed fairly close approach.
According to the "Birds of North America" account, populations of this highly migratory species have declined steadily over the last 30 years possibly in response to forest succession or loss of forested wetlands. Surprisingly little is known of its life history.
