Ridgway's Rail (Rallus obsoletus obsoletus) 4 November 2006 - Coyote Point, San Mateo, California.

I took my ornithology class to the Coyote Point yacht harbor where an unusually high tide revealed at least two of these usually secretive large rails. These are of the largest subspecies, R. o. obsoletus which are confined to salt marshes around San Francisco Bay and which are endangered.

Olympus D-550z / Nikon FieldScope 3 / 30XWA (hand-held - no adapter).
