As another non expert, I would like to comment that I agree with Phil's assessement of this bird, and would add that the tail appears to be quite white, which would further support the identification as a Short-billed Dowitcher. Then on the other hand, maybe that's not the rectrices I'm seeing! Dowitchers are fun! --Gary
