The lack of rufous tones and the wide inner primaries eliminate all hummers except Calypte. This bird has the plumb large headed look of Costa's to me. The tail looks shortish, but I can't tell for sure if the wings extend beyond the tail tip becuse the wings are held below the plane of the tail. The green flecking on the flanks and sides of the breast seem to be more like Anna's. I usually think of Costa's as being clear and whitish in these areas, but an immature male may have this look. The proportions do not look like Anna's to me. Also the dark smudgey throat area looks like it may be an emerging gorget. Therefore, I think that this bird is an immature male Costa's.
