Greetings All

The warlber certainly appears to be a MacGillivray's. Orange-crowned is eliminated, in part, by the fairly extensive pale on the bill and the fairly bright pinkish legs. Also, I have not seen an Orange-crowned with big fat eye-arcs like this bird. Which brings in the more important ID quandry in my eyes. Mac vs Mourning. The throat looks quite whitish to me (not yellowish as one should see in an imm Mourning), plus the eye arcs look too short and fat for a Mourning, which usually shows a more complete (though still broken)and thinner eye-ring.

The left hand bird does look most like a Bewick's Wren. The lack of buff tones on the underparts should eliminate other supercilious wrens such as Rock and Marsh, plus I think I can see some white barring on that undertail. The bird does look a bit gray on the crown for a Bewick's, but I am used to our Pac NW Bewick's Wrens. Firm ID's from such odd angles are quite difficult.

Cheers
Steve Mlodinow
