Semipalmated Plover (Charadrius semipalmatus) Abbotts Lagoon, Point Reyes, California 9/17/04.

![]() This is a fairly common bird in this area. The light scaly look to the back suggests a juvenile. Note that the brown on the face meets above the gape. This may help distinguish it from the almost identical Common Ringed Plover which has not yet been recorded in California. Olympus D550z / Nikon FieldScope3 / 30XWA / Hand-held |
