Swainson's Thrush (Catharus ustulatus) 18 May 2007 - Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, Ohio Photo © Joseph Morlan

Thrushes were common this year, mostly Swainson's Thrushes and Veeries. This is the Swainson's Thrush showing a conspicuous buff eyering and face, fairly large dark spots on the chest and brownish flanks that do not contrast with the wings. This is presumably the widespread Eastern "Olive-backed" subspecies, C. u. swainsoni.
