10B Sea Rescue Background: In heavy seas 600 nautical miles SSE off Hawaii, you receive a distress signal on the emergency radio. Plotting the ship’s coordinates, you realize that you are in line to pass its location. Spotters are sent to the bridge, but they have to stay indoors due to the rough seas. After 3 hours, the boat is spotted! It is a fishing boat, wallowing without power. On the shortwave, young & terrified voices explain that the motor flodded and the adults were washed away. There is, unfortunately, nothing you can do to help - or is there... The last time you were in port, CCSF labs installed new sea rescue equipment on your ship that would deliver a crew member across a churning sea to a heaving ship.
