The 10B Pig A pipe inspection gauge (PIG) is commonly used in industry to inspect pipes which contain different fluid substances. There can be many different designs for PIGs owing to the many different types of fluids. Some PIGs merely inspect the interior of a pipe where others actually can perform repairs. During the past 4 years PG&E has replaced residential gas lines throughout San Francisco owing to their age and ability to withstand earthquakes. Now, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) wishes to replace residential water lines. However, the lines first need to be inspected to ascertain their degradation. SFPUC has contacted the engineering department at CCSF and asked for baseline designs for a simple PIG that they can use to inspect residential water lines. Your team needs to come up with a basic design which can travel through a pipe whether there's water present, or not. Competition Pictures
